Agent: Good morning, Lakeside Accommodation. How can I help?
Dave: Hi, I'm looking for a flat to rent starting next month.
Agent: Sure. What's your name?
Dave: Dave Henderson.
Agent: And your course?
Dave: Engineering, first year.
Agent: Right. We have a one-bedroom flat on Church Street for £650 a month... actually, that one's gone. The one on Mill Road is £720, but bills are included.
Dave: That's a bit more than I expected. Is there anything cheaper?
Agent: There's a shared room — £450 a month, but you'd be with three other students.

Anna: We collected samples from three sites, but we found the sample size was too small to be reliable.

Dr Reed: That's a valid concern, Mark. Bank sampling will always miss microplastics. What I'd suggest is that you add water filtration samples from the river itself.
Anna: Oh, we did consider that, but the lab equipment is booked up for weeks.
Dr Reed: You can use the mobile filtration kit instead — it's simpler and doesn't need booking.
Mark: That's a good solution. And for the report, should we include the photography from last month's survey?
Dr Reed: Absolutely. But I'd push back on your plan to analyse them quantitatively — the photographs aren't standardised, so you should present them qualitatively as case studies.
Anna: So not numbers, just descriptions?

Today I want to trace the global journey of coffee, a drink that most of us take for granted. It's commonly believed that coffee originated in Brazil, but in fact the earliest evidence of coffee drinking comes from the Sufi monasteries of Yemen, in the fifteenth century. From there, it spread to Cairo and Istanbul, where coffeehouses — or "schools of the wise" — became centres of political debate.
When coffee finally reached Europe in the seventeenth century, it was initially denounced by some clergy as a "Muslim drink", yet by 1700 London had over 2,000 coffeehouses.
The modern coffee industry, however, is a more complicated story. Most people assume that the world's largest coffee producer is Brazil — and that is true today — but it wasn't always so. Until the 1970s, Vietnam barely exported any coffee at all; today it is the world's second-largest producer, specialising in robusta beans.
The big challenge now is climate change: rising temperatures are affecting the traditional arabica-growing regions of Central America, and farmers are being forced either to migrate to higher altitudes or to switch to more heat-resistant varieties.
