Welcome to the city art gallery. I'm Tom, and I'll be guiding you through our current exhibition, "Colour in Motion." It's on the first floor 鈥?just follow me up the stairs.
This exhibition features works by European abstract artists from the 1950s to the present day. The first painting you'll see is "The Storm," which was painted in 1962. It is one of the artist's later works, and it uses a vibrant palette of blues and greys.
As you move through the exhibition, please note that photography is not allowed in rooms one and two. Room three is the interactive space 鈥?there you can create your own digital art using the tablets provided.
The exhibition runs until the 30th of November. We're open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jake: Mia, I'm a bit stuck on our presentation about plastic pollution. Mia: What's the problem? Jake: I think we have too much data and not enough structure. Do we start with the problem, the causes, or the solutions? Mia: Good question. I think we should open with a short video clip showing plastic in the ocean 鈥?it grabs attention. Then we present the causes, and finish with solutions. Jake: That makes sense. Should we include government statistics? Mia: Maybe one or two key figures, but don't overload it. Good morning. Today we're looking at how children acquire language 鈥?one of the most remarkable achievements in human development.
In the 1950s, linguist Noam Chomsky argued that children are born with what he called a universal grammar 鈥?an innate framework that allows them to learn any language. This, he proposed, explains why children pick up language so effortlessly.
Babies are born able to distinguish every phoneme in every human language. But by around 12 months old, they lose this ability and can only distinguish the sounds of their native language.
Researchers have identified a critical period for language acquisition, roughly from birth to puberty 鈥?around 12 to 13 years old. After that, learning a language becomes much more difficult.
Between the ages of two and eight, children learn new vocabulary at a rate of about ten words per day. Finally, while grammar rules can be absorbed passively, social interaction is essential for developing pragmatic grammar 鈥?the ability to use language appropriately in different contexts.
