The flow diagram illustrates how chocolate is produced from cocoa beans, from harvesting on the farm to the finished product.

Overall, chocolate production involves nine main stages, beginning with the cultivation of cacao trees and ending with solidification in moulds. The process combines agricultural steps with industrial manufacturing.

First, ripe cocoa pods are harvested from cacao trees, and the beans inside are removed. These beans are then fermented for several days before being spread out to dry in the sun. Once dry, they are packed into large sacks and transported by truck or ship to a processing factory.

At the factory, the beans are roasted at high temperatures, which develops their characteristic flavour. After roasting, the shells are removed in a process known as winnowing, leaving the cocoa nibs. These nibs are then ground into a thick, dark liquid called chocolate mass.

Finally, the liquid is mixed with sugar and vanilla, poured into moulds, and left to solidify. The finished chocolate bars are then ready for packaging and distribution.
