雅思写作全真模拟 Task 2 · 延迟退休(Opinion · 范文+拆解)

Opinion:是否应提高退休年龄。

题目 Task

In many countries, people are living longer. Some believe that the retirement age should be raised to reflect this. Others argue that people should be allowed to retire earlier, regardless of age.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

范文(约 310 词)

As life expectancy rises and birth rates fall, the question of when people should retire has become urgent. While raising the retirement age helps sustain pension systems, I believe this must be balanced against the realities of different occupations and the desire for a healthy, active retirement.

Those who support a later retirement age point to fiscal reality. People now live 15 to 20 years longer than when pension systems were designed. Funding decades of retirement for a growing elderly population, with fewer young workers contributing, is mathematically unsustainable. Countries like Germany and the UK have already raised the state pension age to 67 or beyond. Keeping older people in work also addresses labour shortages and transfers valuable skills from experienced workers to younger colleagues.

However, a single retirement age ignores huge differences between occupations. A construction worker or nurse, after 45 years of physically demanding work, may genuinely need to stop at 60. Forcing everyone to work to 67 or 75 penalises those whose bodies cannot sustain it. There is also the question of intergenerational fairness: if older people stay in jobs longer, younger workers face blocked promotion paths and higher youth unemployment.

In my view, a flexible system is best. People in physically demanding jobs should be able to retire earlier, perhaps through a reduced pension or early-access savings. Office workers can choose to work longer. Governments should also encourage gradual retirement — reduced hours rather than a cliff-edge stop.
