📝 高分范文(约 200-250 词,1-2 分钟)

The rule I really disagree with is the strict nine-to-five desk rule at my last company. Basically, everyone had to be at their desk by nine in the morning sharp, and leave no earlier than six, regardless of how much work you actually had to do. If you showed up ten minutes late, you had to explain yourself to HR.

The thing is, most of us were knowledge workers. We were writing code, designing systems, writing reports — work that doesn't happen between fixed hours. Some of my best thinking happened late at night or early in the morning, but the rule penalised you for not being visibly present.

What made it worse was that people started gaming the system. They'd sit at their desks, looking busy, but actually just scrolling through social media. The office was full of bodies, not productivity. I once finished a full day's work by mid-afternoon, but I couldn't leave because it would look bad.

I understand why companies make rules like this — management wants to feel like they're in control. But trust and outcomes matter more than face time. I've since moved to a team that judges you by what you deliver, not when you show up, and honestly, the work has never been better. Rules like this just burn people out and drive talent away.

💬 Part 3 延伸讨论

Q1: Should companies have strict rules about working hours?

For factory or shift work, absolutely. But for knowledge work, rigid hours just don't make sense. A programmer is thinking in the shower, not at the desk. Companies that measure face time usually end up with people pretending to work, not actually working.

Q2: Do rules help or limit creativity?

They do both. Some structure is necessary — deadlines, basic expectations — but too many rules kill experimentation. The most creative work happens when people feel safe taking risks, not when they're scared of breaking some arbitrary policy.
