📝 高分范文(约 200-250 词,1-2 分钟)

The person who stands out as a good leader is my former project manager, David, who I worked with at my last company. He was in charge of a team of about fifteen engineers and designers, and I reported directly to him for nearly three years.

The first thing that struck me about David was that he led by example rather than by authority. He never asked anyone to do something he wouldn't do himself. When a deadline was tight, he'd roll up his sleeves and jump into the coding alongside us, instead of just hovering and asking for status updates.

What made him truly stand out, though, was how he treated people. He remembered everyone's name, their partner's name, even their kids' ages. If someone was struggling, he'd pull them aside for a one-on-one chat rather than calling them out in front of the whole team. And when we pulled off a successful launch, he always gave credit to the team first in front of the big bosses — he never took the glory for himself.

Under his leadership, our team had almost zero turnover in two years, which is pretty unheard of in the tech industry. He taught me that being a good leader isn't about giving orders — it's about making people feel valued, and then they'll go the extra mile for you.

💬 Part 3 延伸讨论

Q1: What qualities make a good leader?

I think the most important one is empathy, honestly. Technical skill or intelligence can get you promoted, but keeping people motivated requires understanding their needs. A good leader should also be decisive when it matters, take responsibility for mistakes, and share the credit with the team. Those three things are hard to find in one person.

Q2: Should leaders be born or made?

I lean towards 'made', actually. Sure, some people are naturally more charismatic, but leadership itself is a skill — communication, conflict resolution, decision-making — and those can all be learned. The problem is that companies often promote the best individual contributor without giving them any management training, which is why so many terrible bosses exist.
