The skill I'd love to pick up is photography — not the fancy DSLR kind, but the everyday kind, the ability to take photos that actually capture a moment rather than just record it.

I first got interested when I started taking photos of my son. I have thousands of pictures on my phone, but honestly, most of them are out of focus, badly framed, or just boring. When I look at other people's photos — a street scene at dusk, a candid of a kid laughing — I feel like they're actually seeing the world differently, and I want to see it that way too.

I'm not in a rush to buy expensive gear. I'd probably start by learning on my phone first, reading a few books on composition and light, and then practising every day on my walks. There are loads of free tutorials online, and I could even join a local photography meet-up.

What really draws me is the idea of really looking at things. Photography forces you to slow down, notice the light, wait for the right moment. In a world where everything is fast and disposable, I think learning to take a good photo would make me appreciate daily life more. And of course, I'd love to have proper photos of my son growing up, instead of the blurry snaps I have now.

I'd say digital literacy and the ability to learn continuously. Technical skills go out of date fast, but knowing how to find information, evaluate it, and pick up new tools — those last forever. Soft skills like communication matter too, of course.

Absolutely. We spend years studying algebra most of us will never use again, but nobody teaches us how to do taxes, cook a meal, or understand a mortgage. Those are the skills that actually determine how our lives turn out.
