The family member I admire most is definitely my grandmother on my mother's side. She's now in her late seventies, but she's still sharp, energetic, and incredibly independent.

I grew up living just a ten-minute walk from her place, so I saw her almost every day as a child. She was the one who picked me up from school, cooked me snacks, and told me stories about her youth. She never had a formal education — back in her day, girls in the countryside didn't get sent to school — but she was the cleverest person I've ever known.

What I admire most about her is her resilience. She lost her husband, my grandfather, when she was only forty-five, leaving her to raise three children on her own. Instead of breaking down, she started a small vegetable stall at the local market, and over the years she managed to send all three kids to university. She never once complained about her life.

Even now, she wakes up at five every morning, tends to her garden, and rides her old bicycle around the neighbourhood. She always says, "As long as you keep moving, life keeps moving with you." That spirit is something I try to carry with me every day. She's proof that you don't need a perfect hand to play a wonderful game.

Q1: Should we respect old people more than young people?

I think respect should be earned, not given by age alone. That said, older people have usually lived through far more than we have, so their wisdom deserves listening to. The problem is when age is used as an excuse — just being old doesn't automatically make you right. I respect my grandmother deeply because of how she lived, not because of her age.

Q2: How has the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren changed?

It's actually become closer in some ways, because families are smaller now. Back in the day, grandparents often lived under the same roof and helped raise the kids. Nowadays, they might live in a different city, but we're more intentional about staying in touch through video calls. Grandparents have also become more tech-savvy, which helps a lot.
