雅思搞笑故事 10:写作Task 2练多了,我每封工作邮件都从"While some argue that"开头

While some argue that..., I believe that..."

"Dear Mr. Smith,"

While some argue that payment terms should be flexible during difficult economic times..."

Could you please settle the outstanding invoice..."

我犹豫了三秒,又把"While some argue that"打了回去。

"While some argue that late payment is merely a reflection of cash-flow pressures, I believe that timely settlement of invoices remains essential for healthy vendor relationships."

While some argue that design templates stifle creativity, I would suggest we stick to the company template for consistency."

While some argue that heavy lunches impair afternoon productivity, I personally lean towards a balanced meal."

While some argue that frequent visits may disrupt parental independence, I believe..."

While some argue that flexible working hours enhance employee well-being, I confirm my attendance at 9 a.m. sharp."

While some argue that workplace communication should be concise, I feel that acknowledging counter-arguments demonstrates thoroughness."

While some argue that mopping should precede vacuuming...',阿姨现在都怕你。"

Some people believe that workplace emails should be formal. To what extent do you agree?"

While some argue that workplace emails should be formal, I believe..."

Hi team, just a quick note..."

While some may argue that this note is unnecessary, I believe clarity is key."

English Version

The most versatile opening line for IELTS Writing Task 2 is: "While some argue that..., I believe that..."

My teacher said memorize it, use it in the exam. State both sides, take a position — word count and structure both solved.

I memorized it. Then it grew into my emails.

That Monday, I needed to send a payment reminder to a client.

I opened my inbox. The cursor blinked in the subject line. I took a breath and started typing:

"Dear Mr. Smith,"

Then my hand automatically typed: "While some argue that payment terms should be flexible during difficult economic times..."

I stared at the line. Wrong. I just wanted to ask when last month's payment would arrive.

I deleted it and rewrote: "Could you please settle the outstanding invoice..."

No. Too direct. IELTS writing demands "objective, academic, with concession." I hesitated for three seconds and typed "While some argue that" right back.

"While some argue that late payment is merely a reflection of cash-flow pressures, I believe that timely settlement of invoices remains essential for healthy vendor relationships."

Sent.

The next day, a colleague asked me to help fix a slide deck. I typed in WeChat Work: "While some argue that design templates stifle creativity, I would suggest we stick to the company template for consistency."

My colleague replied with a question mark.

I was losing control.

My boss asked what I wanted for lunch. I replied: "While some argue that heavy lunches impair afternoon productivity, I personally lean towards a balanced meal."

Boss: "...just tell me if you want noodles or not."

My mom called to ask if I was coming home that weekend. I said: "While some argue that frequent visits may disrupt parental independence, I believe..."

She hung up.

The worst part was Friday. HR emailed me asking if I could be in on time Monday.

I replied: "While some argue that flexible working hours enhance employee well-being, I confirm my attendance at 9 a.m. sharp."

HR forwarded the email to the entire department.

My manager called me into his office. "Why do all your emails lately sound the same?"

I started to explain, but my mouth moved faster than my brain: "While some argue that workplace communication should be concise, I feel that acknowledging counter-arguments demonstrates thoroughness."

My manager went quiet.

"You know," he said, "yesterday you told the cleaning lady, 'While some argue that mopping should precede vacuuming...' Now she's scared of you."

I hung my head.

That night I had a dream. I was sitting in the exam room writing Task 2. The prompt: "Some people believe that workplace emails should be formal. To what extent do you agree?"

I picked up my pen and wrote: "While some argue that workplace emails should be formal, I believe..."

Then I woke up with a jolt. Cold sweat.

I opened my phone and sent myself a note:

"No more 'while' openings in emails tomorrow."

The next morning, I took a deep breath, opened my inbox, and wrote: "Hi team, just a quick note..."

Sent. I exhaled.

Three seconds later, I sent a follow-up: "While some may argue that this note is unnecessary, I believe clarity is key."

— Task 2 taught me to see both sides of every argument. But my boss just wants one sentence: will the job get done or not?
