雅思搞笑故事 21：听力数字听多了，我满脑子都是 double seven
练了一个月的听力数字题，我的耳朵出了问题。
别人说话我听不清内容，只能听到数字。
同事开会，说："我们这个项目，预算大概三十万，分三期，六月一号启动——"
我笔停不下来。30,0000。3。1st June。
旁边的人问："你记什么呢？"
"数字，"我说，"三十万，三期，六月一号。"
"人家说的是预算分配策略，你记数字干嘛？"
我也不知道。听力数字题做多了，听到什么都想写下来。
中午吃饭，服务员过来报菜名："我们今天的特价是三十八元套餐，包含一份牛排、一个汤、一杯饮料——"
我脱口而出："Thirty-eight."
服务员愣住了："什么？"
"Double three eight？不对，是 thirty-eight。"我在脑子里重复了一遍，确认没有 double。
服务员默默地把菜单给了我，眼神像在看一个外星人。
下午我妈打电话来："儿子，你这个月房租交了吗？一千二，下个月十五号之前——"
我立刻拿笔记：1,200。15th。
"你在写什么？"我妈问。
"一千二，十五号。"
"我让你交房租，不是让你做笔记。"
晚上坐地铁，广播报站："本次列车开往 xx 方向，下一站，人民广场，换乘二号线——"
我开始自动翻译：Next stop, People's Square. Transfer to Line 2.
然后我愣了一下。二号线？是 Line two 还是 Line double two？雅思听力里 double two 代表 22，但这里是二号线，不是二十二号线。
我坐过站了。
最崩溃的是昨晚。女朋友打电话来，语气很温柔："亲爱的，你知道我今天等了你多久吗？我在楼下站了整整——"
我立刻抓住关键词：多久。
"Three minutes?" 我试探着问。
她停顿了一下。"什么三分钟？我站了四十分钟！"
"Forty minutes，"我重复了一遍，确认拼写。"F-O-R-T-Y。"
她挂了电话。
我看着手机屏幕，脑子里还在回放：forty。不是 fourteen。重音在第一个音节。我没听错。
但我突然意识到一个更严重的问题：她刚才说"站在楼下"——这是地点。雅思听力 Section 1 最爱考的就是数字加地点。
我应该问她：Which floor?
——雅思听力数字题最大的后遗症：你女朋友说等了你四十分钟，你脑子里想的不是去道歉，而是确认重音在第一个音节。

After a month of drilling listening-number questions, my ears broke.
When people talk, I can't catch the content — all I hear is numbers.
In a meeting, a colleague said, "The project budget is about three hundred thousand, split into three phases, launching on June first—"
My pen wouldn't stop. 300,000. 3. 1st June.
The person next to me asked, "What are you writing down?"
"Numbers," I said. "Three hundred thousand, three phases, June first."
"They were talking about budget allocation strategy. Why are you writing numbers?"
I didn't know. After enough listening-number questions, you want to write down everything you hear.
At lunch, the server came over: "Today's special is a thirty-eight-yuan set, including a steak, a soup, and a drink—"
I blurted out, "Thirty-eight."
The server froze. "What?"
"Double three eight? No, thirty-eight." I repeated it in my head to confirm there was no double.
The server silently handed me the menu, looking at me like I was an alien.
In the afternoon, my mom called: "Son, did you pay the rent? Twelve hundred, before the fifteenth of next month—"
I immediately grabbed a pen: 1,200. 15th.
"What are you writing?" my mom asked.
"Twelve hundred. Fifteenth."
"I told you to pay the rent, not take notes."
On the subway that evening, the announcer said: "This train is bound for xx. Next stop, People's Square. Transfer to Line two—"
I started translating automatically: Next stop, People's Square. Transfer to Line 2.
Then I froze. Line two? Is it Line two or Line double two? In IELTS listening, double two means 22, but this is Line 2, not Line 22.
I missed my stop.
The worst was last night. My girlfriend called, voice soft: "Honey, do you know how long I waited for you today? I stood downstairs for a whole—"
I immediately grabbed the keyword: how long.
"Three minutes?" I guessed.
She paused. "What three minutes? I stood there for forty minutes!"
"Forty minutes," I repeated, checking the spelling. "F-O-R-T-Y."
She hung up.
I stared at the screen, still replaying: forty. Not fourteen. Stress on the first syllable. I didn't mishear.
But then I realized a bigger problem: she said "stood downstairs" — that's a location. IELTS Listening Section 1 loves combining numbers with locations.
I should have asked her: Which floor?
— The worst side effect of IELTS listening-number questions: when your girlfriend says she waited forty minutes, you're not thinking about apologising — you're checking whether the stress is on the first syllable.
