The friend I'd like to talk about is Lin, someone I've known since university. We were on the same course, but we only became close after we ended up on a group project together — we pulled an all-nighter to finish a presentation and somehow ended up chatting until sunrise about everything and nothing.

What I value most about Lin is that he's genuinely good company — the kind of person who can make any situation feel lighter. He has this dry, self-deprecating sense of humour that I really respond to. He's also incredibly reliable. Whenever I've had a rough patch — whether it was a breakup, a work setback, or just a bad week — he's the first person I'd call, and he never makes it about himself.

These days, since we both work, we don't see each other as often as we'd like. We try to meet up once every couple of weeks for dinner or a walk. The great thing is that no matter how long it's been, we pick up right where we left off — no awkward catching-up small talk required.

I think what makes a good friend isn't how often you see them, but how comfortable you are when you do.
