The person who's had the biggest influence on me is my university supervisor, Dr. Chen. I first met him when I started my master's degree, and he ended up advising my thesis. He's quite an unassuming man — soft-spoken, always in a crumpled shirt, but incredibly sharp.

What struck me about him from the start was how he asked questions rather than giving answers. In our weekly meetings, instead of telling me what to research, he'd push me with questions like, "What's the actual evidence here?" or "Why does this matter?" At first it was frustrating — I wanted clear direction. But over time, it forced me to think independently, which is the most valuable skill I took away from my studies.

He also taught me that rigour and curiosity aren't opposites. He's genuinely fascinated by unsolved problems, and he made me realise that asking "why" is more important than rushing to an answer. When I hit a wall with my research, he'd never just say "give up" — he'd say, "Let's look at this differently."

What I took from him, more than any technical knowledge, is a way of working: be sceptical but generous, be persistent but know when to step back. I still think about his advice when I'm stuck on a problem at work.
