雅思口语 Part 3: Technology 科技深度讨论示范(带音频)

Part 3 抽象讨论:围绕科技与社会,展现思辨深度。

🎧 音频示范

Q1: Has technology made people's lives better?

On balance, yes — but it's not a simple yes. It's improved material conditions immeasurably: medicine, communication, access to information. But it's also created new problems we didn't ask for — screen addiction, misinformation, the erosion of attention spans. The question isn't whether technology is good or bad, but whether we're governing it well. We built these tools faster than we built the social institutions to manage them.

Q2: Should governments regulate AI more strictly?

I think they have to, but the hard part is regulating something that moves so fast. By the time a law is written, the technology has moved on. That said, some guardrails are clearly needed — around deepfakes, algorithmic bias, autonomous systems that can cause physical harm. The challenge is distinguishing between regulation that genuinely protects the public and regulation that entrenches the power of big tech. The two aren't always the same.

Q3: Is social media doing more harm than good?

It depends on who you are and how you use it. For marginalised groups, social media has been transformative — it lets them find communities and amplify voices that traditional media ignored. But for the average user, the business model — which rewards outrage and endless scrolling — is actively corrosive. We've built a system that optimises for engagement rather than wellbeing, and the consequences, especially for teenagers, are increasingly hard to ignore.

Q4: Will machines replace human workers?

Some kinds of work, definitely. Others, probably not. Routine, predictable tasks — whether in manufacturing or increasingly in white-collar work like basic coding or accounting — are already being automated. But work that requires judgment, emotional intelligence, or dealing with genuinely novel situations is harder to replace. The real question isn't whether machines will replace workers, but how we redistribute the benefits when they do. That's a political choice, not a technical inevitability.
